American airport security checks

luggage What happens to your luggage when you change flights?
When I fly to Los Angeles, I have to change to another plane at London from Manchester, do you have to collect your luggage?

Or will your luggage be moved for you on the next plane?

Just a compilation of pictures i’ve put together for the Sulphur Generation song ‘White Boy’ (Give it Away). Here are the lyrics: I heard the news today theres some bad shit always going down forgive me when i say i dont care whats happening out of town. Plastic bags, xray beams open up your luggage please take it off, follow me where d’you hide that herbal tea. Be careful what you say in the land of the free home of the brave. Come get me out of here says a mind thats crystal clear If you give away your freedom I will make you feel secure. Make the white boy feel safe You are free to do what they tell you Just a pawn in the game Dont you keep in all to yourself now Give it away, Give it away, Its all about the game of controlling languages and minds so tell me whos to blame an accomplice trying to solve the crime. There is reason in your head and its lying deep in bed if you give away your freedom i will make you feel secure. Make the white boy feel safe You are free to do what they tell you Just a pawn in the game Dont you keep it all to yourself now. Give it away, Give it away, Meaningless activity what the hell d’you want from me underrated liberty is either-way you go. Confidential increment monumental sediment sexual experiment. Give it away, Give it away. *Music composed and produced by George Solonos

It is possible, though unlikely, that stupid questions and stupid procedures are used to lull America's enemies into thinking that our security services are totally ineffective, causing those threatening people to slip up.

However, I believe that the people employed to set up these procedures are less smart than a 5th grader. When adults see evidence that there is some kind of "filtering", many of them, also being less smart than a 5th grader, are fooled into thinking they are protected, when, in fact, they are probably NOT.

This is a pretty good example of how America gets far less good government than it pays for with taxes.

  2. In Israel EVERYBODY gets checked before they are allowed into the airport. I would do the same.

No. As the first person said there are two seperate lines (generally although at smaller airports this may not even be the case). One line for EU nationals (including citizens of the country) and one for non-EU. This includes Americans, but also the rest of the world.

Whilst Americans (and some other countries) are generally able to come to Europe without a visa for visting less than 90 days, there is no seperation at passport control for US passport holders.

    Sorry!

They go through a private inspection if traveling without government security. If they have government security. (Secret Service) then they are exempt from personal search.

I used to do a lot of flying when I was a Federal Agent. All I did was fill out a form at the ticket counter stating who I was and that I was armed and I showed it and my badge to bypass all security gates.

I once had a security guard notice that I had a small knife looking pipe cleaner tool in my carry on when I put it through the X-ray machine as a courtesy. (I didn't even have to do that, but it made me look more like a regular passenger, so not everyone on board knew my profession. It's amazing how nervous people get around a Fed.) She got all upset until the other security guard who was looking at my paper told her not to worry. She didn't think someone carrying a gun would need to use a 2" knife to hijack a plane.) The flight crew was always told where I was sitting and usually the pilot or co-pilot would walk back to meet me. The flight crew LIKED the idea of having an armed Fed among the passengers.

I've never really heard of them doing anything like that. But then, you shouldn't really have the illegal material in the first place, right?

They really care more about actual threats to the 'homeland security' like a bomb or something. The TSA is very specific about what they look for-more physical than anything else. Basically, it would cost them more time (and us, in essence, more money) if they started deciding to look for things like that.

I would just be more concerned about Customs if you are traveling internationally. They would be the ones who would care. You'll encounter Customs when you land at the destination country, and again when you come back to America. That is the kind of place they will care more about this kind of stuff. But general airport security, again, cares about other worries.

Hope that helped to make the distinction!
