luggage What are the restrictions on hand luggage for air travel?
Am flying on holiday tomorrow and am busy trying to sort out my hand luggage… Am I likely to be able to take things like tweezers in my hand luggage, or would they be considered as a dangerous object?

The level of thoroughness of security screening for checked in luggage depends upon many things.
1. Which airport?
2. What time of day?
3. What is the current security level established by HomeLandSecurity?
1. The busier the airport, the more luggage, the less time to x-ray and examine thoroughly. The larger airports are more likely to have explosive "sniffers." In short, more equipment, more personel, less time.
2. There are times during a day when clusters of flights all want to depart within minutes of each other. Less time to screen checked luggage.
3. Self-explanatory. If authorities say security risk is low, then interest is low.
Is it possible to smuggle a bomb on board an airplane in checked luggage? With the layered security approach it is less likely that you can. The danger is that some employee-having greater access-might cooperate with a terrorist.
All luggage is treated equally. And thats bad. I bought a brand new high quality piece of luggage for a trip to Greece. On the way there, one zipper tag was pulled off and on the way back the other was pulled off, rendering it useless for future vacations. The luggage handlers arent going to say "be careful…its Louis Vuitton". Theyre going to toss it into the cargo with all the nameless black bags. Luggage needs to be DURABLE NOT designer.
My luggage is a converted fiberglass toolcase modified to take the shoulder strap from a Sony BetaCam Camera and it's nearly indestructable… and it fits under the seat in ANY airliner.
You DO know the airlines are charging for baggages now…. right?… typically $15 ro $25 for the first bag… $50 to $100 for the second bag and $150 or more for the third bag… and that will probably go up in the future.
